Astute Beta Server OBB File: Do You Need One?
For v2.133.1, no separate OBB file is listed. Install the APK and let the app load what it needs. Adding an OBB from an older or unrelated release is a common cause of black screens and loading loops.
What is an OBB file?
An OBB is an extra data file that some Android games use for large resources like graphics and audio. Some releases need one beside the APK. Others include everything in the APK.
APK only vs APK + OBB
| APK only | APK + OBB | |
|---|---|---|
| What you install | One file | APK plus a matching OBB |
| Where the OBB goes | Not needed | The Android/obb folder |
| Risk | Low | Mismatch causes errors |
| Applies to v2.133.1? | Yes | Not listed |
Rules if a release does need an OBB
- The OBB must match the same version as the APK.
- Never reuse an OBB from an older release.
- Download both from the same source.
- On newer Android versions, access to the Android/obb folder is restricted, so some file managers can’t write there.
Signs of an OBB mismatch
- Black screen on launch
- Loading that never finishes
- Missing textures or resources
- Repeated “downloading resources” prompts
- Crashes right after opening
Fixes
- Check the download page for the latest version and whether it lists an OBB.
- Delete any OBB you added by hand.
- Reopen the app and let it load resources normally.
- Clear the app cache and restart the phone.
- If it still fails, uninstall, then reinstall the APK only. See How to uninstall.
- For black screens, see Black screen or crash.
