Astute Beta Server Lag and High Ping: How to Reduce It

Astute Beta Server may change your ping, but it doesn’t guarantee a lower one. Routing through another server can help on some networks and hurt on others. Test it fairly, fix your basics first, and keep your expectations realistic.

Fixing the wrong one wastes time. Network changes won’t help a hot, overloaded phone.

How to test ping fairly

  1. Use the same phone and same connection for each test.
  2. Play at least 3 to 5 matches each way: with and without Astute.
  3. Note average ping, ping spikes, disconnections, and matchmaking time.
  4. Test at similar times of day, since networks are busier in the evening.
  5. Don’t judge on a single match.

Network fixes

  1. Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi if your router offers it, and sit closer to it.
  2. Switch to mobile data and compare, or the reverse.
  3. Close background downloads, streaming, and updates.
  4. Restart your router and phone.
  5. Try another server region in the app, if offered.
  6. Turn off other VPNs. Two routing layers usually add delay.
  7. Set Private DNS (Settings → Network → Private DNS) with a trusted provider and see if it helps.
  8. Pick a quieter time if your network is busy in the evening.

Phone fixes

  1. Free storage and close background apps. See Low-end devices.
  2. Lower in-game graphics.
  3. Let a hot phone cool.
  4. Use the latest version from the download page.

Why a proxy can make ping worse

A proxy adds an extra stop between you and the game server. If the extra route is shorter or less congested than your normal one, ping can drop. If it is longer or busier, ping goes up. The result depends on your location, ISP, and the server’s location, which is why claims of “always lower ping” can’t be trusted.

When it isn’t ping
